2026-27 Outstanding Superintendent Communicator Award

This prestigious award is presented annually by the Sunshine State School Public Relations Association (SUNSPRA) to honor a current Florida Superintendent who demonstrates exceptional leadership in school public relations and communications—both internally within their district and externally with the broader community. 

Procedure

Submissions will be through SUNSPRA’s electronic awards platform and include the following:

1. A brief summary describing the communication and public relations achievements of the nominee (500 word limit)
2. Examples of internal and external engagement strategies in communication or public relations initiatives (5 examples max)
3. Media clippings or other evidence of outreach in communications and public relations (5 examples max)
4. A high-resolution headshot of the nominee

Criteria

The nominee must be a current superintendent of a public school district in the state of Florida

• Consideration of the superintendent nomination will include demonstrated evidence of the following:
• Engages in year-round internal and external communication efforts.
• Supports communications by allocating a portion of the budget to the program and provides staff and board training and professional development.
• Works closely and strategically with the district’s communications professional(s).
• Excellent personal communication skills including ethics, honesty, openness, transparency, and listening skills.
• Practices communication management techniques such as empowering staff, working with the community, interacting with media, and building partnerships with other entities.

Nominations must be submitted no later than Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Entries for this award are $50 for members, and $75 for non-members.

The investment in the nomination could honor your district’s leader at the FSBA/FADSS 81st Annual Joint Conference luncheon in Tampa, Dec. 3, 2026.
